Day 5 - White House -> Korean War memorial -> Lincoln Memorial -> Vietnam War Memorial -> Buffet Dinner at Grande Buffet & Grill at Laurel Plaza, Laurel

Next stop was the White House and Oval office.
White House taken thru the fence.

Foodstalls along the 15th Street NW. All the tour buses stopped here and we walked to White House from here.

Some sort of spring roll

Boy Scout Memorial,a public artwork by American sculptor Donald De Lue, located here, at The Ellipse.
The sculpture consists of three bronze figures: a Boy Scout in the center. Beside him are two larger allegorical figures of
a man and woman. They represent "American Manhood and Womanhood and the ideals they will pass onto the youth. The three
figures are mounted on a hexagonal-shaped base & in front of the sculpture is a circular pool of water.

A short drive away from the White House is the Korean War Memorial. It was nicely done up and quite impressive.
Entrance

19 stainless steel statues designed by Frank Gaylord; each larger than life-size; each weighs nearly 1,000 pounds (500 kg).
The figures represent a squad on patrol, drawn from each branch of the armed forces; fourteen of the figures are from the
U.S. Army, three are from the Marine Corps, one is a Navy Corpsman, and one is an Air Force Forward Air Observer. They are dressed
in full combat gear, dispersed among strips of granite and juniper bushes which represent the rugged terrain of Korea.

Freedom is not free!

A stone's throw away from the Korean War Memorial is the President Abraham Lincoln Memorial

The Capitol Building, Washington Memorial and the Abraham Lincoln Memorial lined up in a straight line

Next to the Lincoln Memorial is the Vietnam Veterans Memorial not as nicely done up, compared to Korean War Memorial.
Vietnam Veterans Memorial honors U.S. service members of the U.S. armed forces who fought in the Vietnam War, service members
who died in service in Vietnam/South East Asia, and those service members who were unaccounted for during the War.
The memorial currently consists of three separate parts: the Three Soldiers statue, the Vietnam Women's Memorial (we missed this), and the Vietnam
Veterans Memorial Wall where the names of those who died in the war are engraved.

All the soldiers' name were engraved on the granite Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall.

Soon, it was time to leave the Lincoln's Memorial. We were scheduled to take the cruise along the river
but due to the storm the night before, causing many twigs on the waters, the cruise was cancelled. So, we
left Washington DC for our dinner.

I have always thought that Washington DC was a boring place where White House and many Memorials were. But the visit today
changed my mind! It was a very colourful and interesting city with many important buildings, memorials and museums. Furthermore,
all admissions are FREE! IMO, it was a nicer city than NYC and worth visiting! Highly recommended !

It was about an hour and half bus ride to Laurel's. On the way out of Washington DC, we drove past Chinatown!
Buffet Dinner was at Grand Buffet & Grill at Laurel Plaza at Laurel. It costed US$17 nett which was a value for money meal with
many varieties of international food, seafood and many more. There were even oysters! Drinks and deserts were included. After dinner,
we went to DollarTree to buy water. It was so cheap - 6 bottles of water only for US$1!! We couldn't believe it! Then we headed for the hotel.
